Project Background
The Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office planned to organize a national simulation exercise for an outbreak of African swine fever in Switzerland. The planning and organisation of the simulation exercise was outsourced to external partners.
Our Work
We were member of the team leading the planning and organisation the simulation exercise. We helped develop the outbreak scenarios, which included both a desktop exercise and a field exercise. The desktop exercise was primarily targeting the central veterinary services and focused on planning of measures, data analysis and communication. The field exercise primarily targeted veterinary and wildlife services in the cantons and focused on response mechanisms for ASF outbreaks in wild boar. During the simulation exercise, we were member of the team of observers, noting comments about the execution of the activities by the participants. Following the simulation exercise we analysed the feedback given by all participants and observers and contributed to the final report for the simulation exercise.
