Project Background
The Swiss Federal food safety and veterinary office and the cantons financially supports the operation of the Swiss pig health service (SPHS). The SPHS aims to promote pig health and welfare and thus contributes to ensuring animal health and welfare and the availability of safe food. We were mandated by the Swiss Federal food safety and veterinary office to conduct an evaluation of the performance and impact of the work of the SPHS and identify recommendations for its further development.
Our Work
We reviewed available documents and conducted a series of interviews with stakeholders across the pig sector and Swiss veterinary service to obtain information about the organisation, performance and impact of the SPHS. We also implemented online questionnaires among pig farmers and field veterinarians. We summarized our findings, conclusions and recommendations in a written report. The Swiss Federal food safety and veterinary office used our report as a basis to determine the future strategic orientation of its collaboration with the SPHS. The report is available here.
