SAFOSO has conducted an external evaluation of the early detection system for (re-)emerging diseases of the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office. The early detection system was initiated in 2012 and consists of several components, targeting different hazards in a range of animal species and using different approaches, such as slaughterhouse surveillance, syndromic surveillance and information campaigns. The evaluation includes the years 2013-2015. SAFOSO evaluated several individual components of the early detection system and also contributed to the over-all evaluation, which was conducted with Landert Braegger Partner. The results of the evaluation will inform the decision-making process regarding policy changes and specifically on the future design of the early detection system.
