The use of risk assessment is becoming increasingly important for food safety agencies across the globe in general and within the European Union in specific. The European Food Safety Authority EFSA developed the European Food Risk Assessment (EU-FORA) Fellowship Program to build the EU's scientific assessment capacity and knowledge community. The program consists of a 1-year placement of trainees durign which on-the-job training takes place combined with 4 taught training elements.
SAFOSO, together with AGES, BfR and EFET, delivers the taught elements of the EU-FORA programme commissioned by EFSA. A first cohort of fellows started their training in autumn 2017, further cohorts started in autumn 2018 and 2019. During the one-year programme, fellows will spend time in a hosting food safety authority and also participate in a number of taught blocks. The ambition is that the fellows will be among the future food safety experts in Europe.
