SAFOSO's staff member Katharina Stärk contributed to the evaluation of FAO's emergency prevention system (EMPRES) in the role of food safety expert. While originally focused on rinderpest eradication, EMPRES later widened its scope to include animal health, plant protection and food safety issues, and focused on early warning, emergency response and general prevention and capacity building activities. As part of the evaluation, Katharina visited Egypt and Ethiopia to conduct several interviews with stakeholders.
