The veterinary and food safety regulations in Switzerland require the implementation system for the further education of veterinary and food safety officers throughout the country. For historical reasons, the systems for the two sectors are organized separately. In the context of a general review of the further education system, there was a need to develop a better understanding of the future requirements for veterinary and food safety officers.
SAFOSO was mandated by the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office to facilitate the discussions on the future direction of continuous education of official food safety and veterinary officers. SAFOSO conducted a descriptive comparison of the current system to inform a survey on future requirements and expectations for the different functions of officers. An online questionnaire was delivered to a nation-wide audience. The results were presented and discussed during a workshop and summarized in a report.ResultsThe results of our analysis were the basis for further decisions of the client concerning the reorganization of the system for further education.
